Today is Monday, a start of a new week, a start of a new thought process. I want to talk about the importance of collaboration. When you are talking about the film industry, it is a crucial element to know how to work in a team. Working by yourself can be fun for a while, but there are times that you are going to need help. Let me give you an example. Seven years ago when I shot one of my first weddings, I learned one of the most things that I probably will ever learn in my life… And that is, I can never do everything by myself. I was a very ignorant videographer when I first came into the business. I thought I knew everything, I thought I had the best equipment, and I definitely thought that I knew I don’t need anybody to work with me.
Here is the problem. My client at the time requested that I shoot her wedding in a specific manner. I had no idea what she was talking about and I had no idea how to pull this off. Once I finished the wedding video and delivered her the final product, I saw the look on her face. It was the look of disappointment. She wanted specific camera angles that one person cannot shoot by themselves. This is when I realized that I needed to work in the team.
I encourage everybody to go out and meet somebody with similar interests as you. Especially if you are going to pursue film. Working in a team can open so many opportunities for you. You will be able to offer more services, with more camera angles, with a drone operator, a b-roll videographer, and the list goes on and on.
If you you’re going to start a successful business, you have to learn the importance of working in a team. I learned this the hard way. From that lesson, I will always remember the importance of working with other people. Don’t let your business fail from ignorance! Two heads or more, are ALWAYS better than one! REMEMBER THAT!
